What is Turnitin?

Turnitin is an originality checking and plagiarism prevention service that checks student writing for citation mistakes or inappropriate copying.  When a student submits a paper, Turnitin compares it to text in its massive database of student work, websites, books, articles, etc.  Turnitin is integrated into the Assignments tool in all D2L Brightspace courses.  This means that when a student uploads a paper into an assignment folder for grading, it will automatically be sent through Turnitin’s repository.  The Similarity Report that it generates will help identify possible instances of plagiarism.

What is PeerMark

PeerMark is an online peer review program that allows you to review papers submitted by other students in the same class. PeerkMark is found in Brightspace in your course under course content. Peer reviews can be anonymous or you may be permitted to see who reviewed your paper – this is a setting controlled by your instructor. Depending on the nature of the assignment, instructors may also provide the option for you to complete a self-review of your own paper.
