This week’s Pellissippi State Scholarship of the Week focuses on the First Horizon Bank and First Horizon Foundation Scholarships.
The scholarships are available to full-time students who maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and who have verifiable financial need. Scholarships ranging from $350 – $500 are provided each year to eligible Pellissippi State students. Since the scholarships’ inception, 50 students have received scholarship awards totaling $21,250.
Every product, every service, and every person in the First Horizon organization is dedicated to helping their customers maximize their financial potential and reach their investment goals. Whether a customer needs advice and guidance with investments, trusts, financial planning, or more, the First Horizon advisors have the expertise to provide peace of mind and clear direction. With a network of approximately 250 bank locations across the Southeast, they make it easy to help their customers take good care of their money.
Supporting their communities has been part of how First Horizon Bank defines their company since the 1800’s, when a lone bookkeeper, Charles Q. Harris, single-handedly kept their bank open to serve customers and distribute relief funds during the Yellow Fever epidemic in Memphis. Today, they reflect that tradition through their employee volunteer program encouraging employees to strengthen their communities by donating time, talent and professional expertise to nonprofit organizations. They offer employees leadership grants and matching gifts through their company’s Foundation to further reward organizations their employees are involved with.
For more than 150 years, they have strengthened communities by collaborating with nonprofit, community development and civic partners to meet community needs, encourage growth and support sustainability. They leverage the Community Development Fund, Foundation, First Horizon Community Investment Group and First Horizon New Markets Corporation along with other creative solutions to foster affordable housing, services for underserved communities, community revitalization, small business economic development and financial literacy.
On behalf of our Pellissippi State students and our college, we would like to thank First Horizon for their generous support.
