How to Clear Your Browser Cache

Quick Method to Clear a Cache

To clear the cache in any of the browsers, press the keys CTRL-SHIFT-DEL (COMMAND-SHIFT-DEL on a Macintosh). This brings up the clear cache page in the browser so you don’t have to hunt where the latest version moved that menu option. If that doesn’t work for some reason, here are browser specific instructions.

Firefox – Clearing Cache and Cookies

How to clear the cache and cookies from Mozilla Firefox 4.0 or any newer version:

  1. Click the Hamburger Menu at the top right (three stacked horizontal lines), click “History”, then click “Clear Recent History…”Mozilla FireFox - Choose History from Settings menuSelect Clear Recent History
  2. Click on the drop down box to the right of “Time range to clear”: and select “Everything”. Then, click on “Details” and check both Cookies and Cache. Click the “Clear Now” button.

Chrome – Clearing Cache and Cookies

How to clear the cache and cookies in Google Chrome, version 19 and above:

  1. Click on the settings icon (three stacked horizontal lines) that appears to the right of the address bar.
  2. From the menu, select Tools > Clear browsing data…

  3. Check “Empty the cache” and “Delete cookies and other site and plug-in data”. Select “the beginning of time” in the drop down box and click on the “Clear browsing data” button.Clear browsing data - items to check

Safari – Clearing Cache and Cookies

How to clear cache and cookies in Safari 8.0 or newer:

  1. Click “Safari” in the upper left hand side of your screen. In the menu that appears, click “Preferences”.Click Safari then choose Preferences
  2. In the window that appears, click the Privacy tab. Click the button “Remove All Website Data…”Select Cookie and Webisite buttons
  3. Click “Remove Now” in the pop up window that appears.Click Remove Now
