An East Tennessee native, Oakley Atterson spent almost a decade living and teaching in South Korea before returning home to join the English Department at Pellissippi State in 2016. He has taught a mix of English and ESOL courses for the College. From Fall 2017 through Spring 2020, Oakley served as a Faculty Fellow in the High-Impact Practice of Global & Diversity Learning for PACE. His project focused on expanding opportunities for students to take classes that have a global emphasis by facilitating semester-long collaborative work groups for faculty as they internationalized one of their course syllabi. Currently, he is serving as director of the College’s next QEP, which will focus on narrowing equity gaps in student success rates in gateway courses through the adoption of inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogies.
